Ithaca Commencement Rentals
Are you interested in offering your home to a college family for the commencement weekend? As you consider this question, please keep in mind that the family and friends of the graduate will be paying serious fare to stay in your home, and thus will have high expectations of quality and hospitality. For many families this will be their first visit to our community and you can provide a warm welcome, a comfortable home and a convenient location, but for this to be true the home must be very well maintained and presented.
It has been our experience in arranging house rentals for college families that they are looking for homes that are very clean, tidy, bright and welcoming. Homes must be well cared for and well maintained, and an evaluation visit by Ithaca Commencement Rentals is required before entering into an agreement. Please consider whether your home presents any of the following problems, and whether they can be corrected before renting if they exist.
- pet or garbage odors
- mold/mildew (e.g. in bathrooms)
- chipped, peeling or worn paint (inside or out)
- dirty trim or baseboards
- permanent marks/soil on walls and trim
- curbside-type recycling or garbage containers inside the house
- missing kitchen cabinet doors
- grease on and around kitchen stove and countertops
- dirty dishes on the kitchen table or countertops or in the sink
- bathroom fixtures with permanent stains
- cracked or otherwise damaged vinyl or linoleum or tiles
- soiled carpeting
- beds unmade
- box spring or mattress on the floor instead of on a bed frame
- bedrooms with no beds or without a dresser or at least a dressing table
- dirty laundry falling out of closets
- bedrooms or closets without doors
- tattered upholstery, dirty or stained upholstery; broken furniture
- rooms with no furniture or inadequately furnished
- rooms with no window treatments (large picture windows are sometimes an exception)
- windows that do not open; broken window panes
- holes in walls or ceilings
- rooms with unfinished walls; molding/finish work incomplete
- excessive clutter; this includes piles of books and papers and flat surfaces generally covered
- neglected yard/overgrown gardens, un-mowed grass
- unsafe conditions
We realize that this list can perceived as negative or demanding, but to protect our reputation as a company we feel that it’s important for “our” homes to be of a certain quality.
