How much does a home cost for the weekend?
* It varies, based on the number of real-bed sleeping accommodations and the proximity to Cornell and Ithaca College. For 2023, the homes start at $850 per night for a small 2 or 3 bedroom townhouse or home, and go up from there for larger homes that accommodate more people. If you have a number of people in your group who would be otherwise seeking to reserve multiple hotel rooms in Ithaca, you should find these rates to be quite reasonable, with the advantage of all being able to relax together in the privacy of a nice home, with continental breakfast included. Does the rental price include taxes?
* No. State sales tax of 8% and Tompkins County occupancy tax of 5% are additional.
Is a security deposit required?
* Generally no, but there could be exceptions based on our conversation in arranging the rental. We tend to have very little in the way of problems. These are all very nice homes and guests treat them accordingly. That said, you will need to sign an agreement in which you assume responsibility for any damages to objects or property during your stay.
Can I make a reservation online?
* No. We are very careful and personal about matching your needs as guests with the appropriate home. You can either fill out our guest inquire form or simply give is a call (607-229-7351) or drop us an email at info@ithacacommencementrentals.com. However you contact us, or if you have to leave a voice message, we will make every effort to get in touch with you in less than 24 hours.
How will I know what a house looks like, or if I’ll like it?
* After we’ve had a thorough conversation about your needs and the number of guests you expect to reside in the home, we can recommend some homes to view on the web site so you can decide for yourself before signing an agreement or sending a deposit.
Is there a minimum stay?
* Yes, 3 nights for the Cornell commencement weekend and 2 for Ithaca College.
Are there check-in and check-out times?
* These can be adjusted in consultation with the homeowner once an agreement is signed, but generally speaking check-in time is 2:00 PM and check-out time is 11:00 AM.
Will the homeowner be there over the weekend?
* Generally no. The home is for the exclusive use of you and your family and friends for the weekend. There are a couple of exceptions of Bed and Breakfast home clients that rent by the room.
Are linens included?
* Yes, fresh sheets and towels are included. Naturally, you should bring your own toiletries.
What’s included in the continental breakfast?
* Breakfast breads (either danishes, muffins or bagels, but not all three), fresh fruit, coffee, tea, milk or half and half, and juice. You will be able to discuss your preferences with the homeowner prior to arriving. Groceries will be in the kitchen.
How do I get a key to the house?
* Once an agreement is signed, and shortly before visiting, you will be able to contact the owner (or they you) to arrange for a key.
What if there is a problem, or something gets broken accidentally, over the weekend?
* These are all very well maintained homes, but nevertheless, things can happen. If it’s something that is accidentally broken (a bowl, a glass etc.) or the property gets damaged in some way, you are responsible for replacing the object or offering to pay the owner for replacing it or for the repairing the damage. If it’s a problem that occurs with some function or system at the house (e.g. a plumbing problem), we ask that you call us at Ithaca Commencement Rentals and we will respond immediately to address the problem.
